WHAT TO EXPECT

Our cleanroom design and build process

Our cleanroom projects follow a proven Six-Step Process. The Encompass Cleanrooms team guides you through each phase with expert insight and care—making sure to gather the right inputs upfront so execution is seamless, precise, and customized to your needs.

Step one

Consultation and discovery

Your journey begins with an initial meeting where we discuss in detail your specific needs, required cleanroom classification (ISO, GMP, or FDA standards) and preliminary design or concepts. We will gather key data including personnel, workflow, equipment needs, and temperature and humidity requirements. Also during this step we will discuss what trade work will be required and if would like Encompass to provide a full turnkey solution.

Our team will conduct an on-site evaluation to assess the available space, and existing utilities. We also establish a preliminary budget framework and discuss initial timeline expectations, ensuring we’re aligned on scope and goals from the outset.

Step two

Development and proposal

Next, we translate discovery insights into practical conceptual layouts. This includes flow diagrams for personnel, product, waste, and equipment, along with zoning strategies for clean areas, airlocks, and gowning spaces. We evaluate multiple construction approaches—such as modular vs. stickbuilt and ceiling system options—and present you with clear options.

Once you’ve selected a concept, we provide a formal proposal outlining the full scope of work, budget estimates, and projected timelines. We also clearly define ownership of next steps in the cleanroom process, including permitting, and integration of any equipment you may be placing in the cleanroom.

Step Three

Design and engineering

Our engineering team gets to work designing every architectural and mechanical detail. This includes walls, ceilings, floors, finishes, doors, and windows, as well as HVAC systems, HEPA/ULPA filtration, plumbing, electrical, fire suppression, and process gas requirements.

We further engineer electrical systems such as lighting, power distribution, and integration with your building management (BMS) or environmental monitoring systems (EMS). Throughout this stage of your cleanroom design and build, we ensure our engineering will support successful validation and certification to ISO or GMP standards.

Step four

Planning and procurement

With a detailed design in hand, we build a comprehensive project schedule that maps out construction, commissioning, and validation milestones. We identify long lead-time items and procure them early to prevent delays in the cleanroom process.

We also coordinate with your team on site readiness, permitting, and necessary owner-provided utilities to ensure everything is lined up before cleanroom assembly begins.

Step five

Site prep and construction

It’s go time. Our team mobilizes to the job site, prepping and staging materials for a streamlined build. Prior and throughout the construction of the cleanroom we are coordinating with all the trades to ensure quality and timelines are met. We handle all aspects of cleanroom installation, including wall and ceiling systems, flooring, HVAC integration, and filtration.

Electrical and mechanical systems—lighting, outlets, alarms, interlocks, and controls—are installed with precision. Quality checks are embedded throughout the cleanroom build process to ensure the highest quality and integrity of the controlled environment is achieved.

Step six

Testing and validation

Before your cleanroom goes live, we conduct thorough startup testing. This includes HVAC system balancing, airflow visualization, and pressure testing. We validate key metrics such as particle counts, temperature and humidity levels, and pressure differentials to ensure compliance with ISO or GMP classifications.

If any fine-tuning is required, we make adjustments to ensure everything performs to spec—leaving you with a fully certified cleanroom that’s ready for operation.

Ongoing support

Your cleanroom. Fully installed, fully understood.

Our partnership doesn’t end when the build is complete. After your cleanroom design and build, our experts provide a thorough walkthrough to demonstrate the cleanroom’s systems. We also train staff on gowning, contamination control, cleanroom behavior, and emergency procedures.

You’ll also receive a comprehensive documentation package including asbuilt drawings, operations and maintenance manuals, warranty details, and validation reports—everything you need to manage your cleanroom with confidence.

Maintenance and expansion

Built today—but supported tomorrow and beyond

Built today but supported tomorrow and beyond to ensure your cleanroom continues performing at its best, we offer tailored maintenance programs that include scheduled filter changes, and routine performance checks and ongoing certification—all designed to preserve compliance long after your initial cleanroom design and build.

In addition to maintenance, we’re also here to support your evolving needs. Our cleanrooms are engineered with future expansion in mind, making it easy to scale or upgrade systems as your needs change.
