What makes rigidwall cleanrooms different from hardwall or softwall systems?

Rigidwall cleanrooms occupy a practical middle ground. They're more structurally defined and durable than softwall systems, but built with clear acrylic, PVC, or polycarbonate panels rather than the opaque solid walls of a hardwall system.

That distinction matters most when external visibility into the cleanroom is operationally or strategically valuable, such as for process monitoring, safety oversight, regulatory inspections, or demonstrating production capability to investors or customers. From a contamination control standpoint, rigidwall systems deliver reliable performance across ISO Classes 5–8.

The choice between rigidwall and hardwall typically comes down to whether visibility matters for your needs and how much environmental control precision your process requires.

Do transparent panels compromise contamination control?

No. The panel material (acrylic, polycarbonate, or static-dissipative PVC) is nonporous, smooth, and designed specifically for cleanroom environments. These surfaces are as easy to clean and disinfect as opaque wall panels and don't shed particles or harbor microbial growth any differently. Transparency is a visual property, not a structural or contamination control tradeoff.

Rigidwall systems use the same HEPA or ULPA filtration, pressurization, and airflow engineering as other wall system types. The cleanliness of the environment is a function of those systems, even if you can see through the walls.

What industries and circumstances are rigidwall cleanrooms best suited for?

Rigidwall systems are a strong fit for any situation where external visibility into the cleanroom adds value. Can a rigidwall cleanroom be reconfigured or relocated if our needs change?

Yes. Like all modular cleanroom systems, rigidwall cleanrooms are designed from the outset for long-term adaptability.

Panels can be disassembled and reassembled in a different configuration, additional sections can be added as your footprint grows, and the entire structure can be relocated within the same building or moved to a new facility. On top of that, standard sizing in 2' x 4' increments and custom ceiling heights from 7' to 14' give a fair degree of flexibility at the design stage.

That reconfigurability is one of the core arguments for modular construction, as you're not committing to a permanent footprint at a time when your production requirements are still evolving.
